Safe Haven

It began in a field of green,
Under the apple tree,
Sunlight shun down from up above,
And the gentle rays we felt all around,

It was a safe place,
Better than the world around us, Filled with those who never seemed to have lived this life,

We knew where we were going,
We knew where it would all end,
Cause all we needed was love,
Just the touch of a good friend,

I didn’t know how it started,
I’ll never know for sure,
But the heat got hotter,
Than it ever was before,

At first it didn’t matter,
It felt quite nice infact,
But an out of control forest fire,
Caused damage that we couldn’t take back,

For we became those,
Left out in the world that once surrounded us,
We grew older than time,
It all passed us by,
No longer did we see eye to eye,

The youthful skin had now worn thin,
The bitter taste of it all
Still lingers on my tongue,

We now are everything we once tried to protect each other from,
