Riptide

I remember the day the waves began to rise,
It didn’t really matter,
I was sure they would subside,

Just a matter of time,
Then everything would settle as before,

Though I was hurt I didn’t worry,
We’d soon be holding each other once more,

I didn’t see it coming,
It was a riptide,
It seems nothing could have survived,

If I had only known,
A difference could I have made,
Maybe yes, but maybe no,

It left me cold, all alone,
I’d never have thought it was coming,
I’m not gonna lie,
It was a riptide,

It was enough for us to never be together again,
And the aftermath still doesn’t end,

It seems that day fate wasn’t on my side,
It was a riptide.
