Hope everyone has had a great week and have got some things to look forward to over the coming weekend.
While it has still been less than a month since I started this blog and sharing my poetry online here, and I still have a lot of plans to improve my site over the coming months, I am glad I finally started it.
I mentioned in a previous post I’ve been writing poems, stories and song lyrics for nearly three years now, though until I started this mostly only a few trusted friends had seen anything I’d written.
I am thankful for you all who have subscribed or liked posts on my blog, as it really does encourage me. I’m sure that almost all of us know what it is like to encounter negative voices, often more than words of encouragement and to give up on things we enjoy doing. I’ve fallen victim to that many times in my life in the past. Thinking “I didn’t have what it took anyway” or “what was I ever thinking in the first place.”
It reminds me of an episode of the sitcom , Fraiser, where the title characters father always dreamed of writing a hit song by Frank Sinatra. His sons find out he attempted to write one many years ago and help him finish it to submit to Sinatra’s people. Simultaneously, Frasier is working on his recently deceased aunt’s eulogy but is unsure what to say. He does recall a dream she once had of going abroad, but never did, telling his father he will regret it if he does the same with his dream.
Ultimately, Sinatra’s people reject the song, and the father decides not to tell Frasier or his brother. Though just before the funeral he admits so, though he says he is glad he gave it his best shot.
Fraiser goes on to give his eulogy, paying tribute to his aunt, summarising the biggest lesson they learned from her is to dare to dream. Fraiser then comments there is one song that will remind him of her above everything else at which point the church choir start singing the song his father wrote, much to his suprise.
A very funny show, though I think we should all have that attitude. Easier said than done, sure. Nonetheless, we can always try again.
Anyway, I’ll be posting again soon.
Thanks again,
Rob
